So, while I am still attempting to wrangle together a group of guests that can appear on the podcast to talk about this FANTASTIC subject, I thought I'd give everyone a little taste of what I think are the Best Cartoon Theme Songs to have appeared on television so far. When the episode for the podcast is recorded and airs, we'll have plenty more to talk about but for now, enjoy these fantastic songs and themes!
NOTE: These are in no particular order, but feel free to determine what you think is #1 in the comments!
1) DANNY PHANTOM
So, of course I had to add one of the most recognized theme's to this list to get everyone hyped up for the rest of it! Danny Phantom, created by Butch Hartman, is the fantastic story of a kid who gets "ghost powers" and has to protect his town from other ghosts coming through a portal in his basement. But that's all given to you in the theme song. Honestly, it's the quick lyrics with the synthesized beats that really get to me for this one. There are people within my circle of friends who know that if they even mention this show, we're going to have to sing the entire theme.
2) CHOWDER
What do you get when you mix an adorable story concept, stylized characters and fantastic voice-acting? Well, bake that for 45-minutes at 350 degrees and you'll get a strangely endearing show about a young boy who wants to become a fantastic chef, just like his idol. Strangest thing, I meet a few people in the States that remember Chowder, but honestly found most of it's fan-base in England while I was abroad.
3) PHINEAS & FERB
I can honestly say that Phineas & Ferb was a mostly popular during my time in high school, when I was obviously WAY too cool for cartoons...yeah...right. But, having gone back through and watched a good portion of the series now, I love the idea behind it and the message it send to kids across the world. I wish that my summers had been filled with the kind of wacky idea that these boys had, but I suppose I'll just have to pass that down to my younger siblings and kids one day!
4) STEVEN UNIVERSE
Alright, so this one is cheating a little bit but come on, it's one of the greatest moments in the history of Steven Universe. As someone who has watched the show religiously since it's beginning, I will admit tearing up a little bit when this version of the SU Theme arrived on the scene. It's animated beautifully, shows so much of the history between the Gems and Steven, and gives hope that no matter how hard things may get, the Crystal Gems will never falter.
5) ADVENTURE TIME
And, if we're on the subject of Rebecca Sugar and the genius of her songwriting, we have to mention Adventure Time. Now, this was a very hard choice when almost every song that has come out of Adventure Time is an absolute bop, but I don't think any of them hit quite as hard as this one did. I mean, I got it tattooed on me. Marceline, the Vampire Queen, has always been one of my favorite characters and seeing a large portion of her backstory drawn out into an entire arc just brought a warmth to my heart. So, I hope you enjoy getting this stuck in your head for the day, because I'll be humming it for hours before I let it leave my brain.
